When Adam Bentley and I began exploring Nazi monuments in Edmonton, we created a film about the monument in St. Michael’s Cemetery that in part pays tribute to the The 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS (1st Galician) called A Monumental Secret. We then learned about the bust of Roman Shukhevych at the Ukrainian Youth Unity Centre and decided to do a sequel more from my perspective as a Jewish person and in the context of other problematic monuments and place names in Edmonton. Unfortunately, just as we were finishing production last year, Russia invaded Ukraine and we decided to hold off releasing the film for the time being. Now that this topic is making headlines in the news once again, we decided it was in the public interest to release the film online. Here is Monumental Secrets.
