Writing/Editing

Writing and editing have been the main areas of my professional work. Below is a sampling of my work online. For a comprehensive list of everything in print (and, more recently, in online publications) I have published since 1997 or so, check out the List of Works Published.

In recent years, much of what I write is online. Here are some of the highlights. You can also find an online portfoli of my work (much of which is covered at the links below) at Authory and at Muck Rack.

Boyle McCauley News – A community newspaper serving the neighbourhoods of Boyle Street and McCauley. I’ve been Editor since April of 2006 and am responsible for the day to day operations of the paper, as well as managing the content and maintaining a production schedule.

Prairie Books NOW is a literary journal featuring author interviews that is distributed in book stores and libraries throughout Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. Some of my recent articles appear on the journal’s website.

T8N is an arts, culture, and lifestyle magazine in St. Albert. Here is a list of my articles, with relevant web links.

Taproot Edmonton is local, independent journalism. Here’s my author page over there.

Alberta Jewish News is the province’s only Jewish community newspaper. My articles are here.

The Jasper Place Community History Project is striving to create a collection of oral histories and articles about the Jasper Place area. I am a writer and researcher for the project, and you can find a list of my articles here.

Windspeaker.com is owned and operated by the Aboriginal Multi-Media Society of Alberta, an Indigenous communications society dedicated to serving the news and information needs of Indigenous people throughout Canada. My articles are archived here.

Alberta Sweetgrass was the Indigenous Newspaper of Alberta published monthly since December 1993. It is now part of Windspeaker.com (see above). I wrote articles on a variety of topics – here are links to the online versions.

Yelp.ca is both a city site and social networking tool. I was a Scout for Edmonton, and continue to write reviews of local businesses and restaurants.

The Jewish Archives and Historical Society of Edmonton and Northern Alberta (JAHSENA) publishes a newsletter three times a year for which I researched and wrote one or two major features for the better part of a decade.

The Phoenix Multi-Faith Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of interfaith cooperation. I wrote articles about interfaith cooperation that appeared on their website and in a published book.

Active Observer – An online archive of my column in Our Voice Street Magazine and From the Ground Up.

Soapbox Columns – A few short personal essays I wrote for Soapbox, which was an Australia-based magazine aimed at the homeless.

Relationship Well-Being – I wrote a few articles for this website that discusses health and relationships.

The Dragon in the Forest – A short story for children, including photos from a performance.

Single Jewish Female: Dating Within the Faith – Of everything I have ever written, I get the most comments about this very personal essay.

Small Community, Big Problems: What’s a Jewish Girl to Do? – This is the follow up to the above article, written originally for InterfaithFamily.com.

Canadian Women Poets on the Internet – An exploration of women poets in Canada who publish their work online.

The Franco-Albertan Music Scene – Written for a now-defunct Alberta arts magazine, this piece stands out in the scope of the research I had to do in order to complete it.

I also enjoy inspiring others to write, and have a blog dedicated to this purpose called Write Now: A Journal for the Journey of Writing.
